The Raw Story | Iraq, Afghanistan wars twice as expensive as expected, report says

President Bush’s six-year invasion of Afghanistan and Iraq will end up costing Americans about $1.5 trillion, or nearly twice as much as the White House has actually spent to fight its wars, because of unseen costs like inflation, rising oil prices and expensive care for wounded veterans. The estimate was revealed in a Democratic staff report from Congress’s Joint Economic Committee. The staff report, titled “The Hidden Costs of the Iraq War,” estimates that the Iraq and Afghan wars have cost the average family more than $20,000.

    Dear President Bush,

I would like my $20,000 back. I did not order this war, so I am returning it as an unsolicited delivery. Also, apparently I want my money refunded in Euros. Thank you for your prompt attention.

    regards,
    -Heidi

Let me know how that goes for you, I may do the same.

I think everyone who can locate Iran, Iraq and Afghanistan on a map should get their $20,000 back. That means he’d only have to shell out a couple million and the rest of them would have no room to complain.

I think that sounds fair. Also, he should split all the refund money from the people who actually did for him among those of us who didn’t. Bonus points if you voted against him twice.

Do you think there are people who voted for him who can find those places on a map? Aside from Cheney? Although Cheney voted (in Ohio at least) 676,000 times… so that could be to our advantage.

I definitely want a share in Cheney’s refund! And also, I think we should all get compensation for the mess they made out of Florida the first time through. Some money for all the people who were denied voting access, some money for all the people whose votes were thrown out because they didn’t say “Bush” on them, you know, that sort of thing.

Since when is inflation an “unforeseen cost”. Has there ever been a time when there wasn’t any?

Not in Bush World. It’s Magical there.
