More impossibilities happening in St. Louis recently. Lucky thing we have the fine folks at the PD (and don’t let’s forget their editors!) for reporting these bizarre happenings. Read the whole article if you’d like, but to get my point, just read the bolds.

Man, 28, charged in fatal STL shooting

ST. LOUIS — A 28-year-old suspect has been charged today in connection with a shooting yesterday that fatally wounded a 30-year-old north St. Louis County man.
Police have identified the victim as Gregory Fields of the 11000 block of Sierra Vista Parkway.

The St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s office charged Willie Simpson, 28, of the 5400 block of Wilborn Drive, with one count of first-degree murder, two counts of first-degree assault and one count of armed criminal action. He is being held at the St. Louis city jail.

The deadly encounter happened Tuesday afternoon in the 5900 block of Cote Brilliante Avenue in the Wells/Goodfellow Neighborhood.

According to police, Fields and another man had been sitting in Fields’ car at that address when the shooting happened.

Fields was transported by ambulance to Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis where he was pronounced dead. The passenger in his car was not injured.

Police arrested Fields in the 5900 block of Wabada Avenue after a brief foot pursuit.

Sooooo… according to the article, Fields was:

sitting in a car
got shot
got transported to the hospital
died
fled
was then arrested after a foot pursuit (which they describe as brief and I am inclined to believe – since I think that even I could outrun a dead guy in foot pursuit.)

I am not sure why he fled or was arrested, unless he died at a U.S. hospital while uninsured. But then you’d think they just would arrest his family or something. I guess this “Simpson” character who did the shooting must have just turned himself in sometime later on. Wish the article had covered that.

Oh they’ve since amended the article to replace “Fields” with “Simpson” in that last paragraph. Only imagine what they could do if they edited things BEFORE they posted them! The possibilities for sense-making are endless!
