Friday Five – Geek Out Movies

December 13th, 2009

This week’s Friday Five are geek movies we’d like to see screened at The Firebird’s Geek Out Movie Night. We got a little bit distracted towards the end there, and started suggesting movies for “Worst Movie Ever” night, which is not a real event as far as I know. (and if it becomes an event, I think the sheet the movies are projected on should either be dirty, or have a hole in it. We could even imagine that it was the real sheet used in filming the infamously bizarre sex scene in The Room.) But anyway, here’s what you wanted. Sounds like Real Genius is a serious contender.

superbadgirl – Geeky Movies: Watchmen, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Time Bandits, War Games and Robocop. #fridayfive

El_Dickman
– @superbadgirl Highlander, Blade Runner, Princess Bride, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, The Rocky Horror Picture Show #fridayfive

p_tea – @superbadgirl Weird Science, Conan the Barbarian, The Matrix, The Holy Grail, the first Star Wars movie #fridayfive (He also wanted to add Dr. Horrible later, but couldn’t because Friday Five is such a formalized affair.)

_bunny_ - @superbadgirl The Last Starfighter, Tron, Predator, Real Genius, Flash Gordon #fridayfive

gatewaygroupie - @superbadgirl Real Genius, Weird Science, Never Been Kissed, War Games, Short Circuit

UnclePilot - @superbadgirl Rocky, Rocky II, Rocky III, Rocky IV, Curly Sue. (Uncle Pilot is not even allowed to come to Geek Out Movie Night now, because he is on punishment for these suggestions, and for starting a stultifying 20-minute Rocky plotline conversation on Friday night that made me wish Apollo Creed would come by and punch me in the face.) #fridayfive

thatcesareguy – @superbadgirl Real Genius, My Science Project, Big Trouble in Little China, Weird Science, War Games #80sgeeksdoitbest

cbellers – @superbadgirl Real Genius, Sneakers, Pi, Bladerunner, new Star Trek

avandonsel – @superbadgirl Other people have said Tron, Sneakers, War Games… so some of my fav are…

avandonsel – @superbadgirl Pi, Proof, Good Will Hunting, Dark City, Enemy of the State #fridayfive

avandonsel – @superbadgirl Oh, wait, WAIT! I need to change my answer because I forgot about Desk Set. The original.

avandonsel – @superbadgirl I would also say that Possession (the 2002), Stranger Than Fiction, and Rushmore are geek movies of a different kind too.

_bunny_ – @avandonsel Oh, and The Room!

avandonsel – @_bunny_ How could I have overlooked that!

superbadgirl – @_bunny_ @avandonsel OK we are not taking suggestions for worst-movie-ever night. This is geek movie night.

Lorizs_tweets – @superbadgirl @_bunny_ @avandonsel There should be a Worst Movie Ever night and The Room should definitely headline.

violentecstasy – @superbadgirl The Neverending Story, Labyrinth, The Dark Crystal #FridayNotQuiteFive

ZSB3 – #fridayfive Clash of the Titans, Willow, Legend, Red Sonja, The Hobbit. @violentecstasy got Labyrinth and The Dark Crystal before i did :)

hipntrendy – @superbadgirl Goonies, Stargate, My Science Project, Fifth Element, Serenity #fridayfive

arachnophiliac – @superbadgirl Geek Films Silent Edition: Nosfetatu; Metropolis; Cabinet of Dr. Caligari; Haxan; Phantom of the Opera. #fridayfive
