That exact same thing happened to me with an ATM deposit. I deposited a check on Saturday afternoon, and then when I got overcharges Monday, the bank lady was all "well, it would have gone through faster if you'd deposited it in person this morning." Eh??

Maybe if we rant enough we'll all feel better. LOL.

Pfft, have you seen my blog? There is no more rant-safe zone. It's pretty much 92% rants, 6% bitching and 2% music.

Oh, and don't even get me started on how they'll "decline" a purchase when you actually have money in your account, but yeah, not only blithely allow you to make purchases when you don't, but tell that you do, and then after you make the purchases, that no, no, you actually didn't.

I don't remember all the particulars, but I had an incident where I deposited a paycheck into the ATM on a Thursday, checked my available balance on a Friday, went out of town and made purchases all weekend, and then came back to several overdrafts on Monday. Because they ran the deposit AFTER the purchases. Even though it appeared on my available balance. I do not even understand that, and I'm still angry about it. So I'll clutter up your blog with my ranting and still not feel better, grrr.

You know, I'm glad it's not just me this shite happens to. I found out last fall, when trying to pay a $500 motel bill, that my bank only allows me to spend $300 per day with my debit card. So I literally had to go back the next day to pay the other $200.

And then there was the time I was turned down for a second purchase at the grocery store. I bought like $275 worth of groceries, and all was well. Then I wanted to grab something else before we left. Declined. Because now they'd had a security breach somewhere or other. So you can't have your money. And by the way, we're going to cancel your debit card sometime, and issue you a new one. We don't know when.

Or the time I was turned down for an online purchase (also from e-on). I hadn't been out of the house or spent any money that day, which made me go WTF?? Went and checked my account online. It was Monday, and apparently everything I'd bought over the weekend, which included groceries and $285 worth of stuff at Staples, had come in that day. No money for you. Unreal.

However, if I *don't* have any money in the bank, they will feel free to approve a charge anyway, so they can assess an overdraft fee. Which was a problem when we were in the motel, and the stupid guy who also didn't speak much English couldn't understand, "you've emptied her account; don't charge any more money on it until she gets the next insurance check." Sigh.

Ugh. That's happened to me before. Also, apparently there was a completely unbeknown to me and not disclosed anywhere I can easily find $1,000 cap on my debit card. I've had it for many years and do not use any credit cards, but apparently I've never made a single purchase that large with my debit card? Until I recently went to my friendly local Apple store. And my card was declined. And I'm standing there all looking broke in front of a bunch of fancy Apple people saying "ok, I know what this looks like, but I've been saving up for this computer and I swear there is seriously enough in my checking account to buy it and like, all the printers, no really." Luckily, they actually take checks and I actually happened to have one on me. Still. Why would my bank just assume I'm never going to buy something more expensive than a completely random amount and then not tell me about that assumption? Lame.

I think that since the financial institutions ballsed up the world economy last year, they've become paranoid about anyone stealing their money (by which I mean our money that they happen to be using right now)

I keep getting things that I buy over the Internet refused on my Mastercard - things like $20 to e-on software whom I've bought three version of Vue from in the past.

As for my AMEX card - I've given up on even trying to use it. It was the card for my PC mambership at Daz until the end of last year - then it started getting refused.

Bunch of useless b****rds. Wonder if they've heard of shutting the stable door after the horse has bolted?
