mothereff it
August 21st, 2008
I really don’t like Vista AT ALL so far.
I really hate mosquitoes.
I am none too fond of my gyno at the moment, either.
I am tired of being tired.
I am going to bed.

1) Go to Control Panel > User Accounts & Family Safety > User Accounts and click Turn User Account Control on or Off. My advice - turn it off before you install anything, then keep it off forever.
2) I may be the only person who prefers this one - Right click on desktop > themes and pick Windows Classic.
After that it behaves much like XP. Last three computers I’e worked onthat came with Vista also came with 30 days of Office 2008 and Norton Internet Security - my advice is to delete both of these asap and replace them with your usual programs.
I have already deleted a bunch of crap, but some of the stuff I want to delete doesn’t show up in the add/remove programs dialog. All this AOL shit, AOL video, AOL this-n-that, I don’t want all that crap on my system! It’s all listed in the “All Programs” menu, but not in the a/r programs one. Maybe because they’re not programs but weblinks? I don’t know.
Plus, there’s a whole “Vaio Update” utility on the desktop which they tell you to check as soon as you get the computer started. Supposed to get you system updates, driver updates, etc. Clicked it and got a “500 Internal-Server Error” on Sony’s site. Nice.
I wouldn’t bother with the Vaio Update crap either - windows update will find driver updates if necessary to…but I’d recommend going again to control panel > Security and click Turn automatic updating on/off. I have mine set to “check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them” - lets me avoid installing drivers that I don’t want (currently 5 of them sitting there)
I went over to PCPitstop and they think even my new laptop is a pile of poo, apparently. I am starting to doubt their ability to figure stuff out. I think they want to just sell me their own crapwear that I don’t need.
