Just Lay Back and Enjoy?

McCain answers the question: I’m keeping the money – The Jed Report

Yesterday, John McCain cancelled his attendance at a fundraiser with Clayton Williams, who gave the following advice to rape victims: “As long as it’s inevitable, you might as well lie back and enjoy it.”

McCain’s campaign cited that remark as the reason for his cancellation.

But it turns out that Williams had already raised $300,000 for McCain — and now McCain says he is keeping it all.

First of all, this guy should meet up with this guy.

Second of all, I have a friend who dearly loves to strap it on and give it to the guys of her acquaintance. I think it would be rather a good idea for Clayton Williams to experience “just lay back and enjoy” first-hand.

Third of all… fucking McCain. Jesus.

If the advice had been “don’t keep fighting because they might kill you” then I could at least understand it. I taught karate/self defense classes for a long time and always encouraged adult students to consider how far they would go to risk their own life. If someone threatens you with a knife and asks for your wallet, do you fight them? My advice is no, but it does depend on the circumstances. If they have a gun, definitely no – give them the money. For rape you have to decide would you rather risk being killed than “let” them rape you? Not a question anyone can answer, but one everyone (men and women) should think about and not leave until they are in that situation.

But anyone who suggests a rape victim should “lie back and enjoy it” deserves to be placed in a confined space for a few hours with a known rapist of men, then asked afterwards “Since you had no choice, did you make the most of it and enjoy it?”

I completely agree. I am baffled by the mindset of people who can say things like this. Like the guy I linked to, the “rape is just sex and women like sex, so they like rape too.” guy. I don’t even want to look up what kind of logical fallacy that is.

But can they really believe that? And how scary if they DO believe it.

I think the other guy made a further comparison to it being sort of like the women were “force-fed chocolate cake”, the implication being that secretly we all WANT the chocolate cake, and being “forced” to take it relieves us of our responsibility of accepting it (and subsequent guilt for the pleasure we feel.) While that line of thought has some validity in BDSM culture, and people there explore those boundaries, it’s not at all applicable to actual non-consensual sex. Duh.

But seriously, do people REALLY think this way? That scares me more than if they were just talking trash to sound assholish.
